The fact that energy is of great importance today has brought the issues of energy efficiency and sustainability to the forefront and extensive studies have been carried out on these issues.
The concept of sustainability was first defined in 1987 as “the process of meeting today’s needs without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their needs”. This definition refers to the conscious consumption of energy resources, the effective use of renewable energy resources, the necessity of environmentally friendly approaches, and the necessity of intergenerational energy use balance without consuming the energy required for future generations today.
Energy Efficiency is defined as “Reducing energy consumption without reducing the standard of living and quality of service in buildings and the quality and quantity of production in industrial enterprises”. This definition refers to using less energy to perform the same work. Examining energy efficiency together with the topics of human health, environment and economy increases its importance even more.
Lighting, which accounts for a large portion of total energy consumption, is of great importance in reducing energy consumption and ensuring sustainability through energy efficiency studies. It is stated that the consumption caused by lighting is 28% in residences, 48% in the service sector, 16% in industry and 8% in the outdoor environment. Therefore, the use of technological, advanced Daylighting Systems in the interiors of buildings makes significant contributions to energy consumption in buildings.
Daylight Lighting is the provision of natural lighting in the desired location by making maximum use of natural daylight during the bright hours of the day – from sunrise to sunset – and makes a great contribution to minimizing the energy consumption caused by artificial lighting. Analyzes conducted in places where Natural Lighting with Daylight is applied clearly show the effects of natural lighting on people.
Natural Lighting with Daylight contributes to illumination even if there is no sun during the bright hours of the day. This means that artificial lighting is turned off for an average of 6-10 hours a day. To give an example; if Natural Lighting with Daylight is applied in a place where 30 bulbs with a power of 40 watts are used for 8 hours a day, a total of 9.6 kW per day, 288 kW per month and a total of 3,456 kW of energy consumption per year will be prevented. In addition, CO2 emissions caused by fossil fuels used in the production of electrical energy will also decrease in direct proportion to the reduction in energy consumption. Energy savings means less electricity generation and less fossil fuel use.
CO2 trading, which is implemented in Europe and will soon be implemented in our country, has also gained importance. In short, CO2 trading means that when an enterprise emits less than the amount of emission rights, it will be able to credit the difference and sell it to another enterprise or state that emits more than its rights. In Europe, 1 ton of CO2 is 1 credit and the price is 24 euros. Energy savings in lighting will provide a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
Artificial lighting fixtures create heat load in the environment where they are used. Therefore, the need for cooling increases due to the heat generated in the space. In this case, it means overworking of air conditioning units and energy consumption.
There is no heat load in cold lighting environments. This means that air conditioning systems work less and save more energy.
Daylight is a basic necessity of life. Studies have shown that people who spend time in places naturally illuminated by daylight have fewer health problems such as depression, sleep disorders, agitated and tense moods. In addition, it has been found that serotonin and endorphin, which are happiness hormones, are more, and it has been observed that people who are under the influence of daylight are far away from psychological problems.
It has been observed that the performance of the personnel working in the offices increases by 15-20%, the time to make rounds is shortened, and the personnel who work more psychologically comfortable are more successful in their work. This translates into financial gains for the company where the personnel work.
In tests conducted on a total of 21,000 students in 3 schools in California, Washington and Colorado, it was observed that the achievement of students in naturally daylit classrooms increased by 10-20% in math tests and 18-26% in reading. In addition, the analysis also revealed that students’ attention is easier and longer lasting, and that they are more psychologically comfortable.
It has been observed that sales rates have increased in the retail sector. As a result of the analysis conducted in a Shopping Center in the USA, the sales rate in 1 store illuminated naturally with daylight increased by 28% compared to 11 stores illuminated with artificial lighting.
With Natural Daylighting in the industry, workers’ attention has increased, thus error and accident rates have decreased, efficiency and productivity have increased and financial gain has increased in direct proportion.
Daylight Tube Lighting System is a technological system that takes Daylight from the outdoor environment in a controlled manner, carries and spreads it indoors, and provides comfortable lighting by making the disadvantages of daylight advantageous thanks to its structure. Its features such as yellowing resistance, preventing heat gain, UV resistance, not creating a greenhouse effect, having a simple structure and almost negligible operating costs make it ahead of other natural lighting solutions.
The fact that energy is the most important issue and problem of today, that energy resources are decreasing with consumption and prices are increasing considerably in this direction has made it obligatory for us to use renewable and endless energy resources. Especially in lighting, which consumes a large part of the energy in the world, it is our responsibility for today and our future to turn to Natural Lighting with Daylight.
Aware of this responsibility, FORM Endüstri Tesisleri realized the production of Daylight Tube Lighting System for the first time in Turkey at its factory in Ankara.
With this production, the technology brought from abroad, which has high costs and therefore long turnaround times, has both contributed to the national economy and started to be offered to the end user at lower costs with the production of the first domestic production SUNVIA Daylight Tube Lighting System by Form Endüstri Tesisleri. Therefore, in addition to the advantages of daylight, while saving energy, return periods have reached acceptable periods. Sunvia Daylight Lighting System is preferred in shopping malls, factories, offices, warehouses and individual uses, that is, in every area where lighting is needed.
It is the outside part of the system. The dome is made of a special material that collects daylight, has high strength and yellowing resistance, and has high light transmittance. The 5 mm wall thickness dome has 95% light transmittance and a heat transmission coefficient of 5.1 W/m2C. It is resistant to 12 Kj/m2 impact strength and can resist different forms of precipitation and hard impacts.
Natural daylight entering the system through the dome enters the UV-resistant tube made of silver-aluminum alloy with 99% reflectivity. In this tube, which works on the principle of reflection of light on reflective surfaces, daylight travels through the tube with high reflectivity. Standard 125 cm and 60 cm length tubes can be adjusted depending on the height of the installation location.
The lens is the starting point of the system and provides a homogeneous light distribution in the area to be illuminated. It has high light transmittance. It has good insulation against electrostatic charges. Highly resistant to UV radiation, SUNVIA lenses can be used for many years under the sun. There are types with prismatic and linear surface structure according to the desired light distribution in the area. Square and round lenses can be used to adapt to the architectural structure.
The performance of the system depends on the illuminance level of the outdoor environment. In clear, sunny weather, system performance is high.
The height of the location, the direction of the area where the acrylic dome will be placed, and the length of the reflective tube used in the system directly affect the system performance. The direction of the dome, which is usually mounted on the roof (depending on the situation, it can also be mounted on the facade of the building or in the garden), should be made in an area where it can receive healthy daylight from sunrise to sunset (it is healthy to have a southern facade), and where there are no buildings, trees, etc. around it that will cause shading. Correctly determining the dome direction and the area to be installed will increase the light efficiency to be obtained inside.
SUNVIA Daylight Tube Lighting System has different models and additional accessories to provide solutions for different user groups.
